Volvo - The Game lets Drivers get Behind the Wheel of S60 Concept Virtually

Volvo - The Game: the exciting new challenge for everyone who enjoys racing games is being released today. It features all of Volvo's racing legends over the years and also introduces a new star: the Volvo S60 Concept. Just download the game, select your favourite Volvo and test your skills on one of the two highly authentic tracks. The game has been developed together with SimBin Studios.

One person who will definitely play Volvo - The Game is Swedish racing star Robert Dahlgren. He has achieved immense success for Volvo in the STCC - the Swedish Touring Car Championship - since 2004. His current racing car is a Volvo C30.

Like most other professional racing drivers, Robert Dahlgren uses virtual racing games to train when the racing season comes to an end. "Playing racing games helps me train my ability to concentrate and to maintain my level of concentration over many laps," says Robert Dahlgren.

Volvo - The Game features six different cars and the race is run on two authentically reproduced racing tracks.

The six racing cars are the stars. The lead roles are played by the Volvo S60 Concept, the Volvo C30 that is currently competing in the STCC, the previous Volvo S60 that also competed in the STCC, the Volvo S40 that notched up many notable successes in the BTCC (the British Touring Car Championship), the Volvo 850- the estate car that became a legend in the BTCC - and finally a true racing classic from the past, a Volvo 240 Turbo Group A.

The two tracks are the Gothenburg Eco Drive Arena in Göteborg, Sweden and Chayka outside Kiev in the Ukraine. Volvo - The Game is the only virtual racing game in the world to feature the Ukrainian racing track.

STCC game inspired
The idea behind Volvo - The Game was born in autumn 2008 when the STCC game was released. The STCC game inspired Pontus Berger, who at the time worked with licensing issues at Volvo Cars. He contacted SimBin. His question was simple: "Can you make a PC-based racing game that has broad public appeal, features only Volvo models and introduces our new concept car, the Volvo S60 Concept?"

A team of 15-20 people worked together to create Volvo - The Game. The aim was to make it as realistic as possible. The game developers have invested huge numbers of hours in getting all the details exactly right. Just "building" a car for a racing game takes about one month.

True to form, the six cars each have different driving characteristics. It's almost like getting behind the wheel, which is rather unusual in car games. The classic Volvo 240 Turbo Group A, for instance, has entirely different driving characteristics compared with the latest newcomer, the Volvo S60 Concept.

In order to recreate the older cars' interiors as authentically as possible, the designers visited the Volvo Museum to study the former racing legends.

"In terms of audio quality we're also remarkably close to reality. One example is the S40. For that car we pulled one of the race cars out of hibernation last autumn and gave it a thorough full-speed workout, recording the engine sound straight from the racing track," explains Magnus Ling Executive Vice President at SimBin.
The two racing tracks have been reproduced with faithful detail and immense precision. It takes about 1000 hours to create a virtual racing track. Even the kerbs alongside the track have to be of exactly the right height. Many of the people playing the game are experts - and they are very particular about the tiniest details.

Robert Dahlgren is convinced that his own Volvo C30 will be the best car in the game. But he will of course be testing them all, and one of the contenders seems to be exerting a particular attraction.
"How cool is it going to be to race the Volvo 240 on the Gothenburg track! When I was growing up, all my friends were driving 240s. But not me. I was out competing. Now I finally get the chance," says an eager Robert Dahlgren.

Authentic feel
The aim of the game is to reach out to a broad public. A seven-year-old can have fun with it but in order to truly get the most out of the game's many advanced features, players really should be a few years older.

For the most authentic feel, Volvo - The Game should be played with a steering wheel and pedals connected to the computer. However, it is also possible to operate the car via the PC's keyboard or with a game-pad. The game offers a choice of skill levels: "novice with all the driver assistance technology activated such as ABS brakes, "semi-pro", and finally "pro" where there is no assistance whatsoever.

It is possible to select the Volvo of your choice, compete against your own best times and have the track all to yourself. Or you can compete against up to eleven computer-controlled competitors. There are several alternative settings for graphics and sound. For instance, the star, the Volvo S60 Concept, will be available in two versions - "natural" and racing.

Footnote: Volvo - The Game can be downloaded free of charge to your own PC www.volvocars.com/game (English version). The game is available in English, German, French, Italian and Spanish. Go to www.volvocars.com/intl

Business, Companies, Government turning to Hybrids for Fleet Cars

BOULDER, Colo.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--As companies and governments grapple with ways to cut costs and reduce carbon emissions, their vehicle fleets represent a significant opportunity to achieve both goals, and an increasing number of fleet managers are utilizing hybrid electric vehicles (HEVs) as a solution.

According to a new study from Pike Research, global hybrid fleet sales will surpass 830,000 vehicles in 2015, up from 280,000 in 2008. Next generation plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs) will represent 21% of total hybrid fleet sales that same year.

Lexus preps to take on BMW 1-Series, Audi A3 in Europe

There seems to be no hope for Lexus models that sell for less than $30,000 to reach the US market, although this won’t be true for other markets.

In Europe, for instance, where diminutives, such as the Bmw 1-Series and the Audi A3 still gain high sales figures, and there are reports coming out that as early as 2010 Lexus will have a challenger for its German competitors.

2009 Porsche Cayenne SUV by BYD Auto is a Chinese Mystery Machine

In any other case, we'd have a hard time believing it, but when you're talking about Chinese automakers of the likes of BYD Auto that has a history of cloning other vehicles such as the Lexus RX-lookalike "S6 SUV" and the Toyota Aygo-esque "F0 minicar", everything is possible, even the creation of a Porsche Cayenne SUV knockoff. The above image of the Porsche Cayenne featuring a photoshoped BYD Auto grille circulated in numerous Chinese sites, but we managed to pinpoint the original scan on a Chinese forum.

We're not entirely sure if the photo is from an official brochure as suggested since there's a possibility that it could be sourced from a car magazine. Either way, while we have no knowledge of the Chinese language, we're presuming that the closing sentences in the article mean that BYD Auto's T6 Cayenne knockoff is planned to be introduced in September 2010 and that it will be equipped with a 2.0-liter engine.

BYD Auto T6 Porsche Cayenne - CarscoopBYD Auto isn't the only Chinese firm that has adopted vehicle cloning as an accepted development strategy

Custom ZR1 Corvette by Bertone - Mantide Shares Mechanicals, Not Body of Vette

Times are tough for custom coach builders and designers. The German coach builder Karmann and Pininfarina, the legendary Italian design firm, have both recently reorganized.

To show that it is still flourishing and ready for work, Stile Bertone is showing off a new concept by its design director, Jason Castriota, who is known for his work on the Ferrari P4/5 while he was at Pininfarina. Built on the chassis and running gear of a Ferrari Enzo, the P4/5 was a one-of-a-kind car, commissioned by James Glickenhaus, an investment manager, film producer and Ferrari collector from Westchester County.

The Bertone Mantide has a more pedestrian platform, though perhaps only slightly. It is built on the mechanicals of a Corvette ZR1, but Mr. Castriota’s car shows no similarity to the Detroit body. It’s a sophisticated design that takes a lot of visual sorting out.

BRABUS again wins Best Brand in Auto Motor Und Sport Tuner Division

If BRABUS ever started a football team (as in FOOTBALL–not that sissy soccer stuff) the word “Dynasty” would be floating around town about now.

For the fourth consecutive year, ‘Auto Motor Und Sport’ (’Auto Motor and Sport” for those who don’t know German) has named the makers of matte-black Mercs the world over the 2009 ‘BEST BRAND’ in the ‘Tuners’ category. Readers were asked to select those tuners whose products they felt were particularly convincing, and after all the ballots were tallied, BRABUS had won more than half of the vote–52.9% to be precise.

This, of course, is nothing new for BRABUS CEO Bodo Buschmann, who took the opportunity, after clearing off a new space in his trophy case, to give the media the ol’ humble acceptance speech shtick, saying this award is, “more than just an honor. It is also the ultimate motivation for us at BRABUS to continue to develop high-performance automobiles and tuning components that meet and exceed the high expectations our customers, the media, and the general public place on us.”

2010 Lamborghini Gallardo LP560-4 Spyder: Car Review by Automobile Magazine

At 12,198 feet, Mount Teide might be the highest point in all of the territories that comprise Spain and one of the main tourist sites in the Canary Islands.

But on this particular Thursday in March, at the parking lot of the viewing center nestled in the volcanic rock near its summit, El Teide is definitely a second-string attraction for the tourists milling about. That's because the mountain, which last erupted in 1909, has been upstaged by the fleet of 2010 Lamborghini Gallardo LP560-4 Spyders that just came roaring in. A single example of the ragtop version of the revised Gallardo coupe that debuted last year would garner attention wherever it went, even if it were painted generic silver. But what we have here at the top of Tenerife is a flotilla of more than a dozen Gallardo Spyders painted dayglow yellow, electric lime green, brilliant blue, matte black, and crisp white with black wheels, among other eye-popping shades. The cabins are just as colorful and enticing, every inch of them lined with exquisitely detailed leather. (Our favorite? Pearlescent white paint over rich, dark brown hides. Scrumptious.)

Happy Birthday, Ford Capri

BRENTWOOD, 05 May, 2009 – The Ford car designed for the young at heart is refusing to grow old gracefully as the Ford Capri celebrates it 40th anniversary.

Although production ended in 1986, Capri lives on within many owners' clubs who will be celebrating the anniversary with events planned from Scotland to the South West. Fans are getting together at Castle Combe, Wiltshire (6 June), Grampian Transport Museum, Alford, Aberdeenshire (30 August), Ace Café in London (5 September) and Brooklands Museum, Surrey (26 September).

Launched in January 1969 and marketed as "the car you always promised yourself", the Ford Capri was unashamedly aimed at a style-conscious generation. In just 18 years the European answer to the Ford Mustang sold nearly two million units and achieved iconic status with its target audience.

From the outset the Capri was about choice, with a range boasting 26 derivatives. A mixture of engines – 1.3-, 1.6- and 2.0-litre four-cylinder units and a 3-litre V6 – catered for all tastes, while optional custom packs allowed a degree of personal customising that broke new ground in the industry. For the serious drivers there was the Cologne-built RS2600 and the short-lived Halewood-built 124mph RS3100.

A global oil crisis failed to slow the Capri's progress and in 1974 the Mk II was launched. Smoother design lines and simplified option packs ensured the Capri appealed to a wider market.

Star status was assured with regular Capri appearances in TV shows such as Minder and The Professionals.

From 1978, the Mk III saw a tidying up of the Capri body and several special editions such as the Calypso and Laser. In 1981 Dunton's newly-formed Special Vehicle Engineering department unveiled their first project, the 160bhp Capri 2.8 injection. The limited edition Capri 280, also known as the Brooklands Capri, signalled the end of the Capri era and the last car left the line in December 1986.

While the Capri is not the biggest seller in Ford history it is evident from the devoted fan base that it is certainly one of the most fondly remembered.

2010 Lexus IS Convertible Review by Motor Trend

This just in: Lexus is serious about claiming more of BMW's turf. When introduced nearly a decade ago, the IS 300 was a single-focus effort: one body style, one engine, take it or buy the BMW. The second-gen IS, launched in 2005, widened the view: two engines plus an all-wheel-drive version, but still served only in four-door-sedan form. Last year came the roaring, rumbling IS-F, Japan's take on the M3. And now, the IS C, the first IS with two doors instead of four, plus a retractable folding hardtop -- a lot like BMW's.

You'll recognize the C as a member of the IS family, yet every body panel save the hood is new. Besides the obvious -- doors, fenders, folding top -- the fascias, light clusters, and detailing are C specific. Overall length is increased 2.2 inches over the sedan. Otherwise, says Lexus, the trunk would have looked too high and too short. The chassis architecture remains the same, but a considerable amount of work was done to regain the structural rigidity lost by going topless. There are numerous trusses and triangulation braces underneath, in the rocker panel areas, and behind the front seats.

The top was designed, developed, and constructed in-house. It goes up and down quicker than any other in this category. Inside, the headliner covers everything. There's not a brace or strut visible inside, and the effect is almost coupelike. Other aspects of the car are reengineered for top-down duty. For example, the audio system volume adjustments are reprogrammed when the top is down, and the HVAC system knows to deliver more air. The IS C has more trunk volume than do many retractables. There's a handy button to power the passenger seat forward and aft, easing rear-seat access. There's even a neatly engineered, removable windblocker -- too bad that Lexus has the nerve to charge extra for it after doing so much work to make the IS C a complete convertible package. The top system makes use of steel, aluminum, and plastic panels. On average, an IS C is 360-380 pounds heavier than a comparably equipped sedan.

Well, I've just driven the world's first mass-production automobile that employs a lithium-ion battery (the lithium-ion-using Tesla Roadster being a low-production affair). No, it isn't a full electric vehicle as Dr. MacCready would have preferred.

Wimmer Rennsporttechnik Solingen adds 150HP to Porsche GT2

With the tight tolerances, high-quality materials and top-level engineering that goes into today's cars, there's often a surprising amount of potential left inside their engines. It appears the Porsche GT2 is no exception, with the tuners at Wimmer Rennsporttechnik Solingen finding another 150hp (111kW) inside the already brutal car with just a few additions.

Morgan Aero Supersports - CarscoopCharles Morgan, Grandson of the company's founder said "The Morgan Aero SuperSports is a luxurious flamboyant sports car which also remains true to Morgan's philosophy of lightweight minimalist simplicity. It is a celebration of our love of cars and the romance of travel and is a fitting model to announce during Morgan's Centenary year."

2009 Lexus LF-A Supercar Ready for the 2009 Nurburgring 24 Hour Race

It was only last week that we learnt that the ‘always in development never on sale’ Lexus LF-A was heading back to the ‘Ring to compete in the Nurburgring 24-hour endurance race in May.

The latest news is that incoming Toyota President, Akio Toyoda (grandson of the company’s founder) will be enjoying some wheel time during the event. Toyoda is 52 years old, and will team up with three other drivers to punt the Lexus supercar around the ‘Ring.

In addition to genuinely racing the LF-A, Toyota will be using the enduro event to log more data on the LF-A (under race conditions), in the lead up to what is expected (hoped) to be an October launch, at the Tokyo Motor Show.

2010 Chevy Corvette Manual Transmission Launch Control System - Full Throttle

During the 2010 Corvette seminar at the National Corvette Museum's C5/C6 Bash, Corvette's Chief Engineer Tadge Juechter goes into more detail about the new Launch Control option that will be standard on all manual transmission Corvettes. The system modulates engine torque 100 times per second to give the driver the optimal amount of traction on a full throttle start. The best news? Corvette's Launch Control System will not void your warranty!

To engage the launch control system, the driver puts the traction control into competitive mode and then pushes the gas pedal to the floor. The system will hold a predetermined RPM based on which engine you have (LS3/LS7/LS9). When the driver quickly releases the clutch, the launch control modulates engine torque 100 times per second to get the best traction.

GM's testing of the system found that just about any driver can achieve very consistent times on par with that of a skilled driver's best efforts.

2010 Volvo C30, 2010 Volvo S40, and 2010 Volvo V50 get R Design Trim

Mediocrity and green doesn’t have to be together always. But with R-Design, the Volvo C30, S40 and V50 DRIVe can be styled just as dramatically and completely like other model versions.

This is in response to significant demand for vehicles that merge good eco features with thrilling design elements. The continuous optimization of the drivelines of the cars has made this development possible. All the models satisfactorily pass the 120g CO2/km limit (which is 119g for all three models) even without the preceding external revisions intended to lower air drag, including unique body and underbody panels and air spoilers. More details and photos after the jump!

The company claims reduce fuel consumption and CO2 levels for the DRIVe models by a margin that was more than they expected

Suzuki Kizashi-based Sports Car goes on sale in US by December

It's been awhile since we've shown you some spy art of Suzuki's upcoming sport sedan foreshadowed by the Kizashi concepts.

But we got a fresh look at the car on Thursday--with the "spy" art helpfully provided by Suzuki. It was attached to a "save the date" e-mail to members of the North American Car and Truck of the Year jury.

American Suzuki PR honcho Jeff Holland says the sport sedan goes on sale here in December.

2010 Suzuki SX4 Hatchback and Sedan New Design Revealed in China

Suzuki's joint-venture in China, Changan-Suzuki, has released a facelift version of the SX4 crossover for the domestic market. Not surprisingly, both the hatchback and sedan variants of the updated SX4 feature the same aesthetic changes as the European version of the car that was scooped undisguised last December. These include the redesigned bumper, reworked grille and concave surfaces above the fog lights as well as a new skid-plate at the rear of the hatchback.

For those that like to pay attention to insignificant details, the China-market and, from the looks of it, the European-spec 2010 SX4's subtly redesign front-end is no different than the one found on the North American market SX4 that has been around since 2006...

Dodge Viper, Chrysler PT Cruiser, and Chrysler 300C Road Mice - Computer Mouse

Still sleep in a race car bed? Then Road Mice is for you. These mice are faithful replicas of cars such as the Chevy Corvette and Ford Mustang. The company behind Road Mice, Four Door Media, just announced three new models, the Dodge Viper, Chrysler PT Cruiser, and Chrysler 300C. Considering the financial threats to Chrysler's existence, those models might not be around long as actual cars, so the mice may prove to be collectors' items.

From a functional point of view, these are wireless, optical mice, with a scroll wheel that might mar the car's design just a *** Ergonomically, a VW Beetle would probably work best, but that model isn't offered.

BMW teams with Bath University for Project i vehicles

BMW and Bath University have teamed up have a crack at making a decent electric city car. And they say it's not going to be rubbish...

BMW’s Project i, won’t just spawn one city car but a whole range including two, three and four-wheeled vehicles. And, according to the company spokesman we spoke to, they will all be fun to drive as well as extremely eco friendly not some “milk-float inspired spod wagons!” - thanks God for that.

The vehicle proposal that sounds the most exciting to us is the three-wheeler. There has been plenty of speculation that this will be some retro-looking machine inspired by the Isetta from the 1950s.

Well it maybe. However, the BMW spokesman told us it may actually something a whole lot more futuristic.

Newly-Launched 2009 BMW Z4 All-Women-Designed and Targeting Female Buyers

Unlike the original Z4 roadster, [the new 2009 Bimmer] has a folding hard-top roof and in general, has gone a bit more upmarket.

An interesting note: the exterior and interior were designed by two women who beat out the internal competition at BMW. Perhaps this is a good omen for BMW's marketing team, because the company has stated that it is targeting women with the new model.

It's Official! General Motors issues Chevy Camaro Recall due to Battery Cable

You may remember last week's post about a Camaro5 forum member's new Camaro SS shutting down with just 40 miles on the odometer. Her local Chevrolet dealer explained the problem was caused by a faulty battery cable rubbing against the car's starter. Apparently, this was not an isolated incident

2010 Toyota Prius Hybrid Cuts Prices to Compete with the 2010 Honda Insight

March 17 (Bloomberg) -- Toyota Motor Corp., the world’s largest automaker, may cut the price of its Prius gasoline- electric hybrid car in Japan to match Honda Motor *** Insight.

Toyota spokesman Yuta Kaga declined to confirm or deny a Nikkei newspaper report today that said the starting price of the Prius will be cut to 1.89 million yen ($19,250) from 2.33 million yen. The Insight hybrid, which went on sale in Japan last month, starts at 1.89 million yen.

Toyota later this year plans to introduce a revamped Prius with higher mileage and more power than the current model and the Insight. Both automakers are betting on fuel-efficient models as governments worldwide tighten emission standards.

Toyota A-BAT Concept Aero Truck Not Coming Soon - Toyota Cancels Production

Call it another victim of the economic downturn. When asked if the Toyota A-BAT concept was still under consideration for production, Bob Carter, Toyota Motor Sales USA vice president and general manager replied "We have a lot of top priorities right now, and A-BAT isn't one of them."

Toyota introduced the A-BAT (Advanced Breakthrough Aero Truck) at the 2008 Detroit auto show as a potential design for a compact pickup in the U.S. It featured a unibody construction like the Honda Ridgeline and was powered by a hybrid powertrain. It was believed last year that Toyota had already green-lighted A-BAT production.

No reason was sighted for Toyota's choice to pause the A-BAT program.

Toyota debuts Scion iQ at New York Auto Show

NEW YORK, April 8, 2009 -- At the New York Auto Show today, Scion unveiled a special concept version of the iQ micro-subcompact car designed to meet the transportation needs of young urban trendsetters.

Scion’s iQ concept is a new urban vehicle with a revolutionary package that is just over 10 feet in length and accommodates three plus luggage. As more and more urban centers are revitalized with a new sense of purpose, energy, and creativity, young people are moving in from the suburbs to embrace new urbanism and are looking for a car that suits their needs and delivers high emotional value.

Scion’s iQ concept is the intelligent answer to this need for highly emotional and efficient urban transportation. The convenience of having work, entertainment and culture nearby for young city-dwellers is a significant draw to urban centers. The vehicle must be able to navigate narrow, congested streets, park in tight places, have impressive fuel economy, and have compelling design and function.

“Scion’s iQ concept turns traditional auto design upside down,” said Jack Hollis, Scion vice president. “Traditionally small vehicles have been thought of as being basic. The iQ concept is just the opposite with its innovative features and iconic urban design, and we believe it fits in well within the Scion brand. Our young, trendsetting buyers are creative and innovative forward thinkers, and we think they will appreciate what iQ has to offer.”

The production iQ is currently sold in Japan and Europe. Five Axis of Huntington Beach, Calif. took the iQ to the next level with aggressive exterior and interior modifications that show the vehicle’s potential for personalization.

With its 78.7-inch wheelbase, the three-door hatchback can deftly maneuver through city traffic. At the same time, its overall length of 126.9-inches, overall width of 71.4-inches, and short front and rear overhangs allow the iQ to fit in virtually any city parking space. The front-mounted differential and repositioned steering rack decrease front end length. In addition, the iQ is equipped with a flat gas tank housed beneath the floor that reduces rear overhang.

Pushing the wheels of the small, bold concept towards the four corners of the body gives the iQ a confident stance. The custom 18-inch wheels with a nickel finish and wide tires fill the wheel well, adding to its surefootedness. The iQ’s custom front air dam, aero headlamps and high-intensity LED driving lamps signal urban road readiness.

“We believe the Scion iQ micro-subcompact concept is the future of transportation,” said Hollis. “If it should join our future line-up, I think it could reach iconic status like our xB. Its styling will attract attention and if it’s a Scion, you know it’ll be easy to personalize.”

The iQ’s profile is defined by a strong and high beltline. Smooth lines glide from the large, dark finish headlamps, up the A-pillar, across the roof and wrap around the rear emphasizing the concept’s geometric beauty. Side mirrors with integrated turn signals accent the clean design.

The rear emphasizes the vehicle’s modern style. Trapezoidal lines run toward the wheels, from the hatch to the thick rear diffuser, creating a substantial presence. A center-mounted trapezoid exhaust adds to the vehicle’s distinctiveness, while large, matte-finished rear taillights help keep the vehicle visible.

The iQ’s interior fuses function, style and entertainment. Attention to detail and modern accents can be seen in the illuminated door handle; the swiveling spotlight that hovers over the dash; an illuminated iQ logo on the passenger-side dash and nickel and raw aluminum toned interior panels. Iridescent green and gray honeycomb upholstery covering the door panels and seating areas, combined with the custom exterior paint, provides a balance of freshness and sophistication. Black matte scuba-like polyurethane covers the seat bolsters and is also used on the headliner with a bright green topstitch for a contemporary finish.

The iQ features a 10-inch panel LCD screen on top of the center cluster that serves as the main entertainment console and navigation system interface. With the push of a button, the touch-screen articulates to reveal the entertainment hub. The touch screen can also play movies while the vehicle is parked. When not in use, the screen lays flat on the dash with a translucent cover that emits a colorful display of light patterns to make the interior even more unique.

A few quick strokes to the black panel below the entertainment hub, or steering wheel controls, command the audio system to shuffle through a music library. The center cluster also features three control knobs for dual front heating and air conditioning settings. The driver and front passenger each have a knob that displays their desired temperature and controls their temperature and fan settings. The center knob dictates zone control for both occupants.

The instrument panel has a speedometer, warning lamps, and a multi-information display. The multi-information display allows the driver to toggle through the odometer, average speed, temperature and eco lamp. The eco lamp illuminates during efficient driving to help the driver achieve maximum fuel economy.

Comfortable front passenger legroom was achieved with a newly-engineered, compact air conditioning unit located behind the center of the front console. The iQ employs a glove bag, with the same textured, honeycomb fabric as the front and rear seats, that can be easily snapped on and off for storage or additional legroom.

Rear seating can accommodate one adult behind the front passenger and a child, small package, or pet behind the driver. Extra slim front seat backs provide rear passengers with legroom. The rear seats are 50/50 and fold flat for increased utility. In addition, the rear seat cushion lifts up to reveal a small flat storage space that can be used for pocket-sized portable music players, small books, digital cameras, or slim laptops.

The iQ does not skimp on safety and is equipped with Vehicle Stability Control (VSC); an anti-lock brake system (ABS) with Electronic Brake force Distribution (EBD); Brake Assist (BA); and nine SRS airbags, which includes the world's first rear window curtain airbag. Other airbags include driver and front passenger front airbags; driver and front passenger seat-mounted side airbags; side curtain airbags; a driver knee airbag; and a front passenger seat cushion airbag.
