2008 Baden Baden Oldtimer Meeting

Some shots from the Baden Baden Oldtimer Meeting we stumbled upon semi-accidentally while driving from Thun to Stuttgart. As I have become bored (again) with Volkswagens I guess today was a good day to feel other viable options from Porsches to Hot Rods.

The event was located around the Baden Baden Trinkhalle and Casino, seemed to be sponsored quite heavily by Mercedes which was nice.

The 6.3 litre AMG V8 "Spa legend" as it was titled, they had a Mercedes guy officially reving up that engine, quite unbelievable sound..

Total of three Gullwings in the event. I guess we were being spoiled, so many Pagodas and 50's SL Cabriolets that I lost count.

Okay, back to business..

Cal Looker representing the era when I got into Volkswagens. I think I like now that 90's stance more than extreme rake that is more common today.

Zwitter and Oval.

"Your move". Reminded me about the German Sheperds I had in "previous life". The moment when the dog got bored with playing fetch and started to challenge the trainer by dropping the stick nearer so there is no chance to just grab the stick before the dog.

Sanna's Spyshots
She has developed a bad habit of taking shots behind my back.

The holy grail..

I have soft spot for Peugeot 404s having spent my childhood trips in one. I should probably be happy not being into French cars, that 60's 404 my parents had hell of a lot more work done to in than my '55 Oval has had so far. I remember it having one full respray, one engine rebuilt where the cylinder liners (don't know the correct term) were swapped along with pistons/rings and welding of course :)

2008 European Street Rod Nationals

My first European Hot Rod event; didn't exactly know what to expect, but have to admit that the event was smaller than I had thought. I talked briefly with German Hot Rodder in our hotel and he mentioned something like 50 cars should appear. We visited the show couple of hours earlier than the schedule suggested and missed half of the cars as there was cruising going on. The rain probably affected too as I don't think I saw a single car with Swiss plates on in the show.

2008 European BugIn II

Check out my photos from EBI II.

The Road to Chimay from Helsinki

Big thanks again to Kobus' travel agency :) Since Chimay is located in Belgian countryside, a farm based bead&breakfast type of arrangements are really great.

Like last year with Dyno Don, this time we had also neighbors that woke us early :)
The shot on the middle is dedicated to our Swedish friend Woffe, "hey, got a navigator for this year and look where the hell it lead me" :)
Made nice progress until we reached Hamburg, spent nearly two hours in the rainy traffic jam on late Friday afternoon, made to Cologne later in the evening.

Nice 911T on the streets of Ystad.

Some tourist shots.. As I was travelling with my wife in our daily-driver this time, we spent bit more time in one over night location and location mattered more than last year :) I had never realized how nice the Southern tip of Sweden actually is.

The plan was to take a boat from Turku, Finland to Stockholm, Sweden on Wednesday evening. Drive during Thursday from Stockholm to Ystad, on Friday from Ystad to Cologne and on Saturday the shortest stint from Cologne, Germany to Chimay, Belgium.
After EBI kill some time in Champagne area and/or Normandy in France then head to Switzerland to ESRA Nationals and back home to Helsinki, Finland.

2008 Turku Concours d'Elegance

I had heard about the Concours event in Turku afterwards but this time made sure that I won't miss it as I had noticed the special "Porsche 60 years" theme. Had great time in the event and liked it a lot but the number of classic Porsches was bit modest.

This '28 Mercedes was simply out of this planet, the huge engine and separate mechanic starting it reminded more WW I fighter plane than a sports car :)

This 300SL was my favourite car of the event. Out of my reach forever but happy to see one in real.

Yes, there is a piece of sheetmetal missing in the bottom corner of the door..
